If you’re a big fan of thriller movies, you may have seen the film Panic Room. The film features a mother and daughter hiding from three home invaders in a panic room, a special room that features four-inch thick steel walls. Before this movie, many people didn’t realise that panic rooms, also called safe rooms, actually existed, but they do. In fact, it’s possible to install a safe room in your own home, providing you have the proper home layout and the money.
Basically, safe rooms are there to provide you, your family, or your co-workers (some offices have safe rooms) a safe place to escape. Its main function is to protect you from a home invasion or if someone is attempting to rob your place of business. A safe room has only one way in, no windows, and no skylights. The main door is usually very thick and features a powerful locking mechanism so it can’t easily be forced open. A home safe room may be constructed from a good sized closet if there’s no true room that can easily be converted. Read the rest of this entry »
When it comes to home security, you may want to go all-out and spend as much as you can on your security system. However, sometimes these more expensive security systems aren’t worth the money. Sometimes, also, you simply don’t have the money to buy a high-tech system, especially if you’ve just been burgled. Here are some ways you can save a bit on your security system up front. Remember, you can always upgrade in the future.
Instead of subscribing to a monitored system, go with a system that isn’t monitored. This means you won’t have to pay a monthly fee. While having a monitored system is certainly very good, there’s nothing that readily says a system is monitored. This means that a thief isn’t going to know whether or not a security company is alerting the authorities or watching via a hidden camera. For all the thief knows, you’ve got the top of the range, most expensive home security system around. Remember, one of the key elements in home security is the presentation. If someone thinks your home is totally secure, it doesn’t matter if it really is or not. Read the rest of this entry »
Many dream of owning their own swimming pool, not only for the fact that it’s a fun way to spend time with family and friends, but also because it increases the appearance and value of your home dramatically, a benefit that can work as an incredible long term real estate investment. But whatever reasons you have for wanting your own, you are probably wondering what so many others do: Is my yard suitable for a swimming pool?
Chances are, yes, your home is probably able to have a swimming pool of some kind. It’s all a matter of size, and whether or not there are pipes or other things underground that could be damaged in excavation. However, even if you find out your local ordinances forbid you from installing a sunken swimming pool, there are always above ground models that are appropriate for nearly any yard.
To find out what you are personally able to do, there are a few steps you will want to take to ensure you find the perfect swimming pool for you and your family. First, measure your yard or garden to find out how large of a swimming pool you can logically commission. Don’t expect an Olympic-sized diving pool, but most can probably get away with a pool that reaches a depth of five or six feet, from a starting shallow end of around three. You may also have room to add additional features, such as a spa, grilling section, or even a waterfall.
Next, check with your local city regulations on swimming pools, and look into the blue prints of your home to make sure you won’t be digging into any pipes or mains. If possible, or required, have a city worker check your yard, to make sure everything is up to par, and safe for excavation. If not, a smaller, above ground model will be needed, although these are still great options, especially for families, and come in various shapes, sizes, and styles. You can even commission one to be custom built to meet your specifications.
Once you have cleared everything with your local housing commission, and you have decided on the right size and type of swimming pool, it’s time to start purchasing the services, and the items, you will need for your pool. It’s that simple! No matter what kind of garden or yard you have, chances are there is something out there to meet your needs, and for a price you can afford. All you have to do is look, compare, and buy!
So, if you are a homeowner, and you think that your own swimming pool is a dream you can’t achieve, you would be surprised about the number of options available to you. From small yards, to vast gardens, there is a type, style, price, and size that will make the perfect fit with you and your family. So get your pool today, and start enjoying the amazing benefits you have always wanted.

Recently, power showers have become very popular and a lot of people want one in their home. Of course, there are a few tips that you should be aware of when choosing a buying a power shower. Not all power showers are good and you want to make sure you can find a power shower that will be right for your needs. Tips and things to look out for include noise, design, water pressure and of course ease of installation. There are many ways to ensure you get yourself a good deal.
Noise
A lot of power showers can be noisy and this is because of pipe work. Usually, if a power shower is installed into a solid piping system rather than a flexible piping system, you’ll experience a lot of noise because the pump causes vibrations which make the pipes vibrate and therefore cause a lot of noise. Many people forget about the little things like this and are then disappointed when they install a power shower only to experience a lot of noise and trouble.
Design
Of course, as a power shower is now a very popular asset for your home, there are tons of designs available and choosing the right one is the key to your happiness. If you want a classic design then make sure you are aware of what is classic and make sure you do some research into finding out what is right for your home. If you need to hire an interior designer to help you then do so because there is nothing worse than getting it wrong just because you guessed at it. There are a variety of designs available from modern to classic and to simple and basic right up to sleek and stylish. It really depends on what you want it to look like and also how practical you want it to be. I’ve seen some designs which are simply useless in terms of practicality but they look gorgeous. Once you decide on a design stick to it and you should be fine.
Water Pressure
This is probably the most important factor of choosing a power shower. The whole idea is that the power shower increases your water pressure and allows you to enjoy an energizing and invigorating shower. If you choose a power shower that has little or no improvement on the pressure you already have then you’ll be disappointed. On the other hand you can go too far and end up with a power shower that has too much water pressure and some of them can actually hurt. It’s best to test some if you can – if you have a friend who owns a power shower, ask them what the pressure is and ask experts in stores etc to make sure you get a good deal on the water pressure you want and need. Research is key with anything like this and can save you a lot of hassle.
Overall, power showers are definitely worth buying and I think that as long as you are aware of the fallbacks some people can make and you avoid them you should have an enjoyable experience all round. Buying the power shower is just the beginning, you’ll then need to have it installed (or install it yourself) and then comes the time when you can relax and refresh yourself in your brand new power shower.

Owning a power shower can greatly improve the look and feel of your bathroom and will probably allow you to enjoy a lot of long and refreshing showers. Installing a power shower is a process that needs to be done carefully and there are a few requirements that you need to ensure you have in place before you even think about buying a power shower.
Firstly, the existing water supply to the shower should be of equal pressure on the hot and cold side. This means that both hot and cold water must come from the same source, a cold water storage tank. Also, the cold supply should not come directly from a rising main since the pressure may fluctuate and will generally be greater than the pressure from a cold water storage tank. Secondly, pipe work should be 22mm as far as possible to reduce flow resistance. 22mm pipe is normally used for the supply from the cold storage tank to cold water feed pipes and the feed pipe to the hot water storage cylinder. Do not reduce to 15mm pipe until it becomes necessary. Thirdly, the booster pump must always be sited with the pipe outlets pointing vertically upwards. To prevent air being drawn down the hot water storage cylinder vent pipe and into the system, and to ensure that the shower has a hot water supply that cannot be affected by water being drawn off elsewhere.
You will also need to ensure that flexible hoses must always be used to link both the incoming and outgoing pipes to the pump. Some pump vibration is inevitable and the flexible hoses help reduce the noise of such vibration and damage to the pump.
Installing the power shower is the next step if you have ensured that the previous guidelines have been met. Installation doesn’t actually take as long as you’d think but of course it’ll depend on what you have in place before you start. Obviously if you’re simply installing a new shower then it’ll be quicker. If you’re replacing a shower then you may find that you will be working for longer because you’ll have to spend time removing the old shower. Also, you may have to change the piping and if you’re removing electricity from an electric shower then you’ll have to deal with that also before you install your new power shower.
Overall, installing a power shower isn’t too tricky and should be able to find a good plumber who can help you. If you’re set on installing the power shower on your own then be prepared for set backs – especially if you have no experience with any kind of plumbing. It’s not so much dangerous as simply stupid to try and install and power shower if you haven’t got a clue what you’re doing because you could end up breaking your new shower and then you’d have to reinstall a new one anyway.
All in all, power showers are great and they don’t take that long to install so I’d suggest that if you buy a new power shower, you should get a plumber to install it so you can be sure you’ll get a good job done.

Power showers are a great asset to any bathroom and there are a variety of benefits in owning a power shower. Firstly, you’ll have a much more enjoyable shower experience because the pressure of a power shower makes de-stressing easier and nicer. Also, if you live in an area where water pressure is low then a power shower can really help with this and the pump will increase the water pressure which makes a shower in your home much more enjoyable.
You can also enjoy being able to find a lot of different accessories for a power shower such as different shower heads, jets and a variety of other things. Also, you’ll find that a power shower will help your muscles as well as clean you because the high pressure gives you a sort of massage which can really help with stress. A major benefit is also that for a quick shower a power shower will de-stress and clean you all in one and is a very fast way of taking a quick shower when compared to traditional showers.
Power showers are available in a variety of styles and are easy to get hold of so this is yet another benefit because it means you can be a little more experimental with your bathroom interior. Everyone enjoys an invigorating shower instead of a small trickle which simply doesn’t refresh or energise you.
Overall, there are many benefits of having a power shower and I think you’ll probably be very happy if you own one. A power shower is definitely an asset to any bathroom and although rather costly in terms of your water bill it’s definitely worth it.
